Dharmendra Pradhan Launches Malaviya Mission – Empowering Educators for a Brighter Future

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of education in India, Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the Malaviya Mission – Teachers Training Programme, a collaborative effort between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education. The launch ceremony took place at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, and saw the unveiling of the program’s dedicated portal and information brochure.
Tailored Training for Educators
The Malaviya Mission – Teachers Training Programme, organized by the UGC, is designed to offer specialized training programs for teachers, with a specific focus on capacity-building for faculty members in higher educational institutions.
Transforming Education
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, during the program launch, stressed the importance of improving the overall quality of education by equipping teachers with the latest knowledge and teaching methodologies. As a significant announcement, he revealed the renaming of Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) to Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers’ Training Centre. This initiative aims to facilitate continuous professional development and enhance the skills of 15 lakh teachers across India through 111 Malaviya Mission centers, all within a defined timeframe.

The Minister highlighted that this program strives to prepare educators for the future while instilling a deeper understanding of Indian values. It aspires to elevate the standard of teacher training, foster leadership skills, and align with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP).
Mapping Career Progression
Shri Pradhan emphasized that capacity building under the Malaviya Mission will be linked to a credit framework, providing educators with clear career progression pathways. He underlined that teachers are the driving force behind societal transformation, and quality education is the catalyst for change. The thematic training sessions are expected to imbue participants with a holistic perspective, and the Indian Knowledge System has been integrated into the program’s modules.

Recognizing the importance of lifelong learning, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan underscored the need for educators to be continual learners. This commitment to ongoing professional development is vital for fostering holistic student development.
G20 Priorities and Empowerment
Shri K. Sanjay Murthy highlighted the integration of key G20 priorities, including technology deployment in education, sustainable development goals, and women-led development, into the Teachers Training Programmes. He commended the UGC’s thoughtful planning, which aims to empower educators across the nation.

Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, emphasized the pivotal role that teachers play in the holistic development of learners. He expressed confidence that the teachers’ training program would contribute to innovative teaching methods and elevate institutional facilities within higher education.
Thematic Curriculum
The two-week online program will revolve around eight essential themes, shaping course curriculum and content to enhance faculty members’ capacity in higher educational institutions. These themes include Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), Academic Leadership, Governance and Management, Higher Education and Society, Research and Development, Skill Development, Student Diversity and Inclusive Education, and Information and Communication Technology. The UGC has established a dedicated portal for faculty members to register for these transformative capacity-building programs.
