MoRTH Notifies Amendment to Streamline Fee for Overloaded Vehicles on National Highways

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified an amendment aimed at streamlining the fee structure for overloaded vehicles plying on National Highways across the country.

The revised framework is designed to ensure stricter enforcement while introducing a more rationalized and transparent fee mechanism for vehicles exceeding prescribed load limits. The move is expected to deter overloading, which has long been a concern due to its adverse impact on road safety, infrastructure durability, and traffic efficiency.

According to the Ministry, overloaded vehicles contribute significantly to road damage and increase the risk of accidents. The amended rules seek to address these challenges by imposing appropriate penalties while also facilitating smoother compliance for transporters.

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader objective of improving road safety standards and enhancing the lifespan of highway infrastructure. It also reinforces efforts to promote responsible freight movement and ensure sustainable use of National Highways.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to modernizing India’s transport ecosystem and urged stakeholders to adhere to the revised regulations for safer and more efficient road usage.
